Here's a little plant I purchased in the Spring from a local grower.

The grower claimed it to be Common Myrtle, Myrtus Communis. I did not see an ID tag inside the pot (1 gallon), or on any of the pots nearby. Just thought I would post it here for some insight/verification of species... The leaf margins appear serrated- the common myrtles I see from pictures online present leaves appearing entire (smooth margins). Leaves are opposite.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure you are correct about Myrtus, and most other species that are called 'myrtle', having smooth leaf margins.
That leaf - and stems and growth - is familiar. I'm racking brains trying to come up with an ID.
Possibly Escallonia sp??

Thanks for the reply, Shibui.
The grower expressed some doubt, so Myrtus was probably his best guess.
If and when it flowers then we’ll have a better clue.

Not Common Myrtle. I'd bet money that's a Spindle tree of some sort. If it was a bonsai nursery and/or the leaves stay small, probably Euonymus Japonicus. If the leaves get big, it's one of the European Spindles, which are very common in California landscaping. Less good for bonsai.
