Revitalizing an old JBP

Those needles were super short! Whoah. Looks like it's coming along pretty good. Do you think longer needles probably increased the vigor?

The tweaked imaged looks even better, especially the apex.
Yes, the longer needles are better sized for this tree. I decandled in May so that the tree would have a longer growing season.

To my eye, the 2nd branch on the left seems to need to be lowered as well.

Probably. You can only do so much at a time. The angle it comes off the trunk will be practically impossible to change. I have a guy wire on it.

This tree is about 80 years old. Those branches are pretty stiff! Let's give it time to recover and thicken back up. I promise you, it will be better!

Difficult it might be but notched your stiff branches could be.;)

I'm aware of notching. Perhaps if this tree was younger and more vigorous I'd try it. The wiring I did is already stressful enough I think. (Not so much the wiring, it's the bending that's stressful.)

We'll let the tree recover from this and see how it responds. I'd rather it take a little longer than risk the health of the tree.

Nice pine! Has great bones and with the wire you did it has a very nice image. With further development in a few years this is going to a be rather beautiful tree!
