Satsuki Azalea

Very nice tree. You’ll want to read a little about dominant and recessive flowers on multi-colored azaleas, Bonsai Today #47 Has a great article on this. You need to keep the all-red flowering branches in check or the tree will eventually have only red flowers. Usually red-flowering branches will not revert to white, the progression is:

white -> white with red stripes/spots -> red with some white stripes/spots -> pure red.

Pretty interesting challenge. Keeping good photographs of the tree in bloom helps guide pruning later when the tree is not in flower.

Since you are a South Korean growing satsuki and their names come up, can you explain to me the Korean names for the Japanese cultivar names?
There is this Korean-to-Japanese reference list:

There is also this excellent Korean satsuki youtube channel, they have a video with a for them new cultivar, but they only know the Korean name

The Korean name is 봉우리. Is it possible to know the Japanese name from that?

The 화철 花綴 Hanatsuzuri I was able to figure out.

You can't really 'train' a multicoloured azalea to be a certain colour on certain branches. They do their own thing. What you can do is remove the branches that have too much color and hope they grow back with more white.

I'm new to the bonsai and have lots of things to learn.

And regarding the YouTube video you posted, I just had a phone call directly with him, and he said it's "하루라라" which is pronounced like "HA RU RA RA." Not sure how to write it in Japanese. Hope this helps.

An yes, Haruurara 春うらら, I knew it. I recently saw a picture of that variety somewhere else. I almost wanted to ask you 'Is it Haruurara' but that wouldn't mean anything to you.
It has a special colour, it seems.
