Here's the lava rock scheff about 10 months after first chop.

I just saw the picture, there are a number of buds, your scheff should be fine. they are slow indoors during the cold weather.

Very important... do not overwater! Also, as previously discussed the chops work out much better in summer when your plant is enjoying the outdoors.

Good luck and don't listen to the naysayers. Grow whatever you like. There are some beautiful examples of scheff bonsai, just google.

In reference to your original post about the Scheff chop, I have done this with several. I tried a cheap home depot scheff as an experiment. Chopped to about 1" in Feb 2012. I put the pot in a plastic bag for high humidity and placed it in a south window. One month later I had new growth. I brought it outside for the summer and now there are 3-4 branches. I tried it on another planted in a lava rock. This one was chopped in April and brought outside, no humidity bag. Over the summer it grew about 5 new branches from the trunk. I just recently chopped the second main branch that was left last spring. They are fun to play with.

That's encouraging! Sorry if I did not reply earlier.

My schefflera, which I cut hard two months ago, has not created any new shoot. I'm really worried. I left it in the same conditions I had it before and doesn't do anything.

The only thing that changed is that the trunk got thicker at the base, and that it slightly bent sideways.

I wonder if I cut it while it was too young. I don't know what to do now.

My schefflera doesn't have any new buds...or was this message directed to somebody else?
