I headed out to my local bonsai spot, and lucked out finding custom made pots. A lady who had been doing ceramics since the 80's was liquidating here collection. I picked up 6 of her personal pots, and 4 that are japanese/chinese. I absolutely love the colours and textures she used, and was super stoked when I realized that a couple were the same size as some of my training pots. The big red one is by far my favourite, and it reminds me of the crackled burnt red pots I have seen from John Cannon.20190823_171656.jpg20190823_172001.jpg20190823_172030.jpg20190823_172054.jpg20190823_172136.jpg

This blue one got put to use as soon as I got home! It is almost exactly the same size as the plastic bonsai pot I had been using. I think it will work wonderfully with the pieris that I have. With the multiple changes of colours throughthe seasons, this deep blueshould look great!20190824_074734.jpg20190824_074645.jpg

Me too! My (this old) house foundation is made with it. There is a large band of quartzite in my area of Pennsylvania. There was once an open quartzite mine pit in my neighborhood. Beautiful material, especially when used to display bonsai! Thank you!

I started messin around with some cheap portland concrete, made a few test pots. I was really using whatever scraps I could find for forms, and colouring. Some pots I added small particle/fines of crushed brick, others with haydite.20190917_170349.jpg20190917_170421.jpg20190917_170443.jpg20190917_170501.jpg20190917_170523.jpg20190917_204201.jpg20190917_204418.jpg
