I picked this up from a greenhouse in massachusetts and brought it back to PA. Does anyone have experience with these?

Im curious on when and how far back I can cut this plant. Id like to cut it back to just a few inches up from the thicker part of the trunk. Theres no visible buds so I’m not sure on the likeliness of something sprouting if I cut it back that far.

Or should I let it keep growing for the time being?

Your Shaving Brush tree is as @HorseloverFat said Pseuobombax ellipticum, Looking at your photo you could cut about an inch above the the bulbous base, there appear to be 3 nodes above the base before the first stump where the trunk had been previously pruned. So it can be cut lower.

I think they are related to Pachiras the money trees, they have a caudex like trunk to store water so overwatering is a thing to have in mind also keep them warm and all the sun possible
