Shishigashira Maple from nursery stock need advice.

I picked up this Shishigashira maple today at a nursery. I understand the plant will require a lot of years before it looks anything like a bonsai if at all. Currently it is potted in a 2 G pot and looks like it could use a repot. Please let me know what would be the best time to repot it as I am in Southeast Texas where it’s 93F today. Also any ideas on ramification of the branches for the long haul is appreciated. The trunk is just above an inch in diameter And base has some flare but on one side only. I will be adding so sphagnum moss to the base to encourage root growth on the other side. I plan to remove that overlapping root later today. Thanks.
