Hello, I'm thinking about acquiring a Shishigashira maple and turn that into a bonsai. Does any one know if this type of maple changes leaves color in the fall in southern California?

being from the right coast, I have no feel for what happens there in the fall. Do deciduous trees drop their leaves ever? If so, I would imagine the JM would too. And before that, turn colors. But if the palm trees love it there my guess is that the maples would be their normal color all the time.

Southern CA isn't the best place for JMs, generally speaking, but southern CA isn't one homogenous climate and neither is Orange County. Shishigashira turns yellow-orange in the late fall - it is spectacular! It will do well anywhere Japanese maples do well.
