some geen in buds

You will have to expand on what you are talking about.

buds swelled abit., then nothing. I see alittle green green but not much. All trees around me have leafed out. but my trident has not

Where are you located? When was it last repotted? Is it stressed due to some recent work?

Sometimes a tree will just not leaf out as fast as others of a similar/ the same species. I doubt a good soaking will do much. If the tree is healthy, maybe a dose of some liquid fertilizer- like Miracle grow- might spur it into growth.. Probably you will just have to hurry up and wait. Sound like how a recent cutting or air layer might act in it's first year off the parent tree... Or one that has had some stress or a little root issue.

here in the mid-Atlantic region, I have experienced a pretty long delay from many years past, with respect to when leaves appear. Here in the last days of April, I have elms that have almost fully leafed out to some Yatsabusas that have still just got fat round buds. Some of my A. Palmatums have almost fully leafed out to some that are just beginning. My tridents are still at fat bud stage, as are hornbeams and a zelcova. My azaleas are pushing buds but some are still showing foliage color from late winter, while others are bright green. One kingsville is also very healthy green while another is still bronze. I guess the answer is that each tree is different from the others, and this is a late spring, at least around here. The nighttime temps are still fluctuating in the high 30s to 50ish. My tropicals are still on my dog's crate by the window in my dining room. WTH??

Odd, all of ours started bud very early, many were covered with snow as you recall. Now the Elms here are probably going to leaf out in a few more days while all of the Larger Maple varieties are showing small leafs. All the young Maples(saplings) have heavy buds. Hornbeam here are in leaf. Larch all have 1/2" or so needles. Azalea here had an extra long bloom early and have put on about 3 inches of new growth the past 3 weeks. All of the Bald Cypress, Mulberry, Black Cherry, and Potted Dogwoods are now just starting to bud out. Our night temps are the same so the Tropicals remain inside. I find it interesting as we both had similar winters and different results so far.

I have three trees that have yet to bud out this year too. Others are in full leaf. Just one of those winters and each tree moves at its own pace... or they're dead...

My only tree that hasn't leafed out yet is a volunteer oak that I put in the grow garden last year. The maples and lilacs are in leaf. I collected a beech a few weeks ago that is leafing out, but I'm not too sure if it will make it yet. My cotoneaster is still with its old leaves, but it's starting to bud, my azalea is starting to bloom, and my quince has some tiny leaves emerging. I did lose several trees to the winter, however.

Lmao! "Or they're dead"- This hobby makes us all so comfortable with the mortality of trees right? I certainly hope the trees aren't dead! If they are pushing green they probably aren't. More likely they are just a little stressed- maybe had some root tips dry out or Die off from the cold... Once the tree grows new ones it will probably start growing again... Or they're dead! LOL

I live in Maryland and all of my Tridents are in full leaf.. All trees garaged kept. Tridents are robust but softies when it comes to COLD!!!I hear different opinions but I say always always protect the feet on these guys...Dont work them too early either branches will die on you...

In terms of the original purpose of this post...Keep watering but don't over water...Many years ago I had a disaster that cost me critical branches on several of my kaede...I kept watering into mid June than buds everywhere.
