Well this was a week ago (internet's been down), so actually more plump foliage now with temps near 80ºF.
Here are some of my junis waking up a bit more robustly than the initial March wake up call.
After some work last year, most are needing thinned and wired.
DSC_6075.JPG
Cascade had recovered enough from its 2018 repot to thin and wire some this year

I think the last one is not a juniper, but waking up it is. It may get potted up in July ;)

Nice lot of healthy juniper you got there. Yes wire. Most are ready for it.

Thanks Thomas. I know right...I always make excuses or have reasons not to work on several.

I got this one potted up 2nd potting for this one, removing 75% of the previous, 1st potting soil mix.

This one for instance ^ was stymied from its last potting 2 yrs ago. Was afraid it might not make it at one point
so I have done nothing to it in 2 yrs but water and feed. Has great movement and eager to re-expose the trunk.

This Sargent juniper exploded with growth after heavy cut back 2019. Cut that growth back last year and it sulked for the rest of the year
not responding the same way, but is plumping up nicely now with juicy growth tips.

Gold Lace. Vigorous, this one sports the most brown foliage of all of my junipers...begging for attention. It too was hard pruned
along with the Sargent above same time with same explosive results after a hard July cut back. Since it was potted, a 2nd hard prune did not ensue
and the result speaks for itself as compared to the Sargent, which you can see through its bag of bones rather easily.

Another 3 gallon Gold Tip

Another procumbens - The sisters. One of which is ugly. This was a 1 gallon nursery stock

That first pic of the cascade is SOOOOO nice. Looking forward to seeing it wired out.

Then there's Ole No. 2 that just keeps plugging along in its mica pot

DSC_6126.JPG
This procumbens I really like. It was a starter plant from a lot of 6 I got on eBay in 2" pots.
The pot!! well here's why I haven't thinned it...I repotted it last year in April 2020. Was doing good.
Then 5/29/2020 the pot and tree took a South Paw gust of wind and busted on the deck while I was at work.
I had no other pot to put it in. NOW, this pot which I had to drill the drainage holes into, has busted over Winter
this year and I'm going to press my luck that it does not crumble and actually work on the foliage this year.
Sad to say, but it needs repotting again given the condition of the temporary home it's in.
The bottom 2 branches are probably sacrifice branches

Procumbens beginning to plump up...

I got lazy this year and took the pics in the evening Sun instead of bringing each one in for a picture.
The foliage still has a little leathery feel to it and last possible frost date is May 10th.
Just fertilized everything again today, expect the foliage to get plump and juicy in a week or so.
Will take a pic of the cascade next. It is slated to be potted up soon.

Shimpaku are ripe for any that need potting up.

Other than a little wiring damage there's been no Winter clean up yet. Not much need really. One of these 2 pots will call it home next month.
I took the 2 days after the last full moon off to do my repotting 4/17 and 18, but the foliage
was still a bit too leathery for me, so I waited. Our weather had exploded the development
of the candles on my JWP, which was also slated to be repotted this Spring, but alas I missed the window.

In the work shop here today, temps have moderated to nothing in the 30's anymore this Spring.
In fact now week 2 of May, mid 40's are becoming more and more rare, leaving us in the 50-60's
overnight, and mid 70's to mid 80's during the day.

DSC_7687.JPG
This ER repot from 2 yrs ago when it blew off the porch railing and busted the pot it was in, has recovered well.
Now this pot is crumbling so a great time to take care of that...

There's ample foliage to aid recovery, and the planting angle was adjusted to make the tree more upright
rather than leaning backwards as procumbens tend to do naturally.

I've begun adding some sort of identifying tag, such as the red twisty here to recent repots
so my wife can discern if she were to water the plants. Otherwise she'd never know by plant name.
DSC_7697.JPG
I got this shimpaku at Meehans nursery 2020 I believe.
I may've left it there if I knew the root situation.
DSC_7699.JPG
DSC_7701.JPG
The back half of the root ball has a big void, making it very unstable in the bonsai pot.
DSC_7704.JPG
I'm going to wrap a couple wires around the pot and guy wire the tree to it and check back next year
to see if the roots are filling the pot and seeking better on its own.

Repotted 2019 and still eager to re expose the trunk, and have moved this one up to 2nd to wire this year. Theres so many levels of foliage to work on.

Planning a 3 year project with this one. I dont work the cascading branch as much as the foliage above the pot in the same year.

This may be my 1st to wire (less detail).

I potted it up last May, so i might just thin it for now, then wire later. But it's waking up after no Sun for most of the Winter as is everything else.

This the tree with no front
I think I've decided i like the front with the jin to the right. Not that the jin is any good, but i like how the bonsai works best in this position.

And this is the same tree with no front posted earlier after a good thinning.

I've never done this Spring thinning before. I've always done it in mid Summer...July.
I think i like it. Will know for sure in a month or so.

Cedar- Hawthorn rust. This is the 1st time any of my plants have been infected. I've only seen 2 globs so far and it's not supposed the be damaging to juniper, though I'm obviously not leaving it to spread.

Keep an eye on yours this year.
I blame the new weather on it
and it's on really healthy plants despite the one with juvenile growth from thinning.

After

The left mass was considered for a cascade but that didn't last long.
I'll wire it out later as sacrificial
then jin it some day.
