What’s a bus tub . I realize we live in vastly different climates my friend . But you seem to have such a high success rate with collected material . And yes we collect very different trees . But what’s your post collection soil medium. I believe you mentioned it in other threads but I forgot

A bus tub is a very durable plastic tub that the restaurant industry uses to collect dirty dishes from the dinner table. The dimensions are roughly 21"x 15" x 7". It is perfect for the big trees I am collecting. For bald cypress and Mayhaw that love moisture, I am using straight potting soil. For live oaks and other trees I use a mix of DE, pumice, and pine bark.

We can grow BC, too....very nice Not knowing anything about them surprised how much you guys can reduce the roots when collecting . There supposed to be somewhat related to the white cedar we collect up here but we do t find them in a swamp .you also eliminate all the branches amazing for a conifer

Bald cypress LOVE a long hot summer. They don't naturally occur in Wisconsin, summer is too cool and too short. North of roughly Springfield Illinois pretty much all bald cypress were planted by humans. South of Springfield IL, Indianapolis IN, Columbus OH is where the natural range starts, north of that approximate line there the growing season is too short and cool.
Yes, if a BC is planted by humans, anywhere in zone 5, even up to Toronto Canada, it would survive, but it would not spread by seed into the landscape, because summers warm enough to germinate seed, with enough time for seedlings to mature before first frost, just don't happen in the northern states or Canada.

Metasequoia, the dawn redwood seems slightly better cold tolerant for northern growers, and for my eyes, looks a lot like bald cypress.
Dawn redwood is very fast growing too.

I planted a BC Shawnee Brave Cultivar . In the front yard last spring . Wife’s tree . Until it dies then it’s my fault
I tried to talk her into Dawn Redwood. But she wanted the bc 
We will see if it lives zone 4

That's super fascinating about the seed germination.
I keep running into varied hardiness ratings for BC.. some say USDA3.. some say USDA4...
They should at least survive in the frame. (I've got some zone 5 (and even a 6) "tester plants" in there.)
With the initial temp reading of first extended "deep cold" (0-5dF)... My 'curve' for temperatures in the coldframe is appearing to be SUPER promising. It'd have to reach ACTUAL temps of (around) -20 to bust below 20dF IN the frame.. with 1" of snow cover.
And there's about 5" on it now!
I think I actually figured out how to winter plants properly up here!... Only took me 4 years!

My understanding from the little I researched . Is BC a large variation in cold heat tolerance . Like some other trees . Depends greatly on location . There water tolerance allows them to dominate and live where others can not in southern swamps . There cold tolerance is from dryer ground . More north west . As we are also finding with other trees . There hardiness and heat tolerance is greatly effected buy . Seed source . Brave is recognized . Slightly more narrow cultivar amongst the most cold hardy versions .That's super fascinating about the seed germination.

Am I correct to assume the frame is buried . In snow ie completely covered . Is it In Your balcony or on the ground . I know you are aware how I winter my trees . I have my doubts. We know as much about dormancy and what effects it . As we think we do . But it is false to think that buried is snow . Blocks all light . Research into biology of fish and plant life . In lakes and rivers that completely freeze with snow cover . I don't trust the rodents and vermin around here...
The frame is above ground... Squished into a half-cement corner, created by heated buildings.

Ok Cajun thoughts . Your my BC expert this is my wife’s yard planted last spring . Cultivar is Shawnee Brave I’m at the edge of it’s cold tolerance . Zone 4. Looks alive to me . But I have no idea what I’m looking at full size pic of tree won’t load but your not missing much about 1.5 inch trunk keep in mind if it’s dead it’s the tree guy in the houses fault

Spiderman is growing like crazy. It doubled the foliage mass in the past 2 weeks. I am letting it grow and feeding it hard to encourage the closing of the huge carving wounds. Next step is to move it to a bus tub to flood the base - Making it "SWOLE" like the younguns are saying these days.
