Star Magnolia air layer

Here is a pic of my star magnolia air layer project. Just layered it yesterday (maybe a little early but it's been really warm in my zone). This is my first try at an air layer so I'm crossing my fingers. I think the new trunk will have some character. Any tips on how long I should leave the wrap on the tree?

Most likely, until Aug/Sep. If that is just sphagnum under clear wrap, you'll see an abundant number of roots by then,

I usually have to put some sort of cover on mine. Black plastic or something. Birds find my clear plastic too inviting and peck holes in it.
