During this extreme heat wave, I have placed 30 percent sun shades over my junipers that need full sun. I have done this for cacti with no issues but my first time doing it with bonsai. Air flows through of course the holes in the screen. Anyone ever done this? It is not possible to erect a full shelter since my yard is not set up and the earth rotation keeps changing. thanks.

I wouldnt let anything touch the foliage. I also leave my junipers and pines in full sun year round, even when we hit temps of 115+. I just water more often.

Thanks very much, yeah I am protecting the pots with cloth etc but remove (hassle) at the end of the day.

Yeah, a little bit too much right on the foliage... not needed depending on the juniper. My nana is sitting in full sun right now and enjoying life, while my "parsonii" (I think that is what it is, love the sun but thrive better under a little shade in the hottest part of the day.

I put light colored cloth over the soil. The chopstick moisture indicator sticks keep it up off the soil DIRECTLY but my theory is it shades the soil and the pot to keep the roots from stewing.
I also give ALL the trees a cold shower in the early evening when the direct sun is off the foliage.
Dunno if it helps but it would help ME if someone sprayed me down. :)

Just looked out the window. I don't think it will be cooler today.
