This tree was acquired in 2015 from Telperion Farms, it was six feet tall at that point after cut back. Now 6 years in development this is the first Bonsai pot! ( previous post) The tree was 12 years of age when acquired with a 3 inch base. Currently has a 5 1/2 inch base, 20 inch height and 19 inch width. The pot is 4 1/2 inches deep and 15 inches long. Definitely a squat style with more powerful base. Here is an early picture of the tree taken in April 2018 for reference. One lower branch hidden in the back and a whorl near the top of the reduced trunk!

Love the apparent age and gnarly trunk! Lots of pruning with that tree throughout the year!
Here is a twin trunk of mine. Mountain Hemlock , eight years in training, collected tree! Sarah Rayner pot!Father& Son Mar 18.jpeg

Oriental spruce , all out of copper wire at studio… will eventually go on a slab, redesigned with stuff loosely wired up top. Not bad for first styling of this tree.

JBP, took time to thin and wire today! Previous post # 5421. In the process of increasing density of foliage and compacting the design. beginning to reduce branching and increase the separation of pads. Pleased with the gradual reduction of needle length. Easier to visualize in the second smaller photo. needle length now varies from 1 1/4 " tp 1 3/4". For a tree this size I will be happy with consistent needle length of 1 1/4 inch when the pads are more refined. This will also increase the openings between pads and branch levels. Six years in training, originally purchased from Telperion farms.

Nice internode length development shows in the progression. Well done. How would you feel about shortening one internode length, would the next step down on the left add some dynamic to the trunk line? Or do you prefer the stability of the more upright centred apex?

Do you mean reducing the apex and using the branch under it as a continuation of the trunk line?

Initially that was my thought, but I think a small rotation of the existing planting angle would accomplish the same thing as I study it further. That would also place the scar more to the side and back of the design. A small adjustment that would change the vertical to a bit more of a slant in keeping with the wonderful movement of the lower trunk portion.
