Thuricide

If you throw a bag of it on a tree, yes.
In general application, it should not hurt your tree.

I can't find out what's in it, other than crystalized proteins. Some proteins can be pretty detrimental to plants, but it's hard to estimate since "proteins" are about the most diverse group of molecules in the world. I suspect most of the commercially available stuff has a label and has been tested for safety.

Thanks. It was a spray from concentrate and definitely wasn’t over concentrated. I think my slow release fertilizer released its salts erroneously and caused osmotic shock to some of my trees. I’ve ruled out everything else now. Ugh

Something happened to your plants?
You can always spray it again, on some random garden plant and monitor it, to see if you get the same damage. Might have been the thuricide after all, I think ruling it out entirely would benefit your future approach. There's very little info available on the web about the stuff.

If you want us to help with tackling the issue, a picture or two would be nice. The label of the thuricide might help too, sometimes there's some nasty carrier mixed in like naphta, which can damage foliage.

My friend, who has been doing this for 40 years, says it looks like osmotic shock. We fertilized with a slow-release Harrell’s 10 days ago and this happened about 4 days ago. We think something was wrong with the fertilizer.

thuricide BT is a bacillus bacteria that kills caterpillars and larvae that eat leaves. I've used it successfully a number of times.

I don't know Harrell's, but it sounds like Osmocote. These types of fertilizers will release fertilizer at a much higher rate in hot weather, so it's hard to predict how much to use. I've damaged or killed trees with it. I no longer use it in containerized environments. It's great for the veggie garden though.

I agree. I believe it’s harmless but when this happened to a half-dozen of my trees at precisely the same time, I needed to rule things out. I’m thinking fert shock. I am leeching now.
