Hey all, just thought I'd share this as it is coming up in my social feeds but the Unión del Bonsai Español is having their convention this weekend and due to covid it is an all online event.

They also have a contest running and open to voting now for all the trees that were submitted via photographs. This I believe is a bit like the Trophy will be this year and was open to all comers from anywhere in the world, I think.
The voting process is as simple as most likes wins so you can go to the facebook or instagram pages and give a like to whichever trees you wish.

If you go to the pinned post here https://www.facebook.com/UBEbonsai/ you can see the entered trees and give a like on the individual photos...

or

Go here https://www.instagram.com/ube_bonsai/?hl=es and the competition trees are the 60 latest ones uploaded and stop when you hit the flyer.

You can also view them from their website but for now the link isn't working so maybe they haven't fully uploaded them yet.

I'm hoping this will be updated with more info about the trees, species and owners as that info so far is lacking.

Also on the 23/24th and 30/31st there will be online demonstrations via the youtube channel here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXCRx4 ... ot8cxHscew
All times mentioned would be GMT+1 and it's likely all in Spanish but that's fair enough. Youtube does have an auto translate option so hopefully that would work on a live video but no doubt the recordings will stay up to watch later.

Anyway, thought this may be of interest. Some interesting trees have been submitted. I already have a couple of favourites.

This one was posted as Premio, tree by Sebastià Gestí Mier.
I'm guessing first in show as judged.

Yeah all the words I learned from American tv don't apply here, lol.
I'm far better with the subtitles turned on than without them.

I also mean like, my time in texas, living with mexicans... only KIND OF applies. ;)

Formal “Usted” misunderstanding swings both ways! 🤣🤣

Spain in my opinion is unquestionably creating some of the very best bonsai outside Japan. They have been for quite some time now. They exhibit exquisite taste and really fine eye for design. The UBE exhibitions are sharp and clean highlighting each tree beautifully. Behind it all are a group of very talented professionals that have helped elevate Spanish bonsai to very high levels on both ends, conifers and deciduous alike.

Congrats to UBE for another magnificent exhibition!

I love the olives I've seen coming out of Spain. One of my favorite trees and they have some of the greatest examples. I wish we had more opportunities to collect those here. There are some great examples I've seen here (Ca) but Spain seems to have such an abundance of opportunities.

Olives and Taxus. Tough to beat those Spanish taxus!
