Anyone else using this technique or similar to bend branches? What are your findings?

Seems low hassle and a good use for scrap wire, though weights do bounce around a bit and maybe aren’t as presentable

I like it. Sometimes I use rock or other heavy objects to contort seedlings' trunks. This seems like a good, low-budget way to bend branches of more mature trees with a bit o' bling. Gonna have to give this a shot.

Hm.. I prefer the bends to be right at the trunk, as tight as possible. What you seem to be creating is upwards loops with the branch then going down?

Weights have limited uses. If you just need a branch to go straight down it's OK.
If you need to put other bends (upward or sideways) in the branch it won't help.
If you need to move a branch sideways or anything other than straight down weights won't help.
If you need to bend close to the trunk it won't help.
It may be difficult to limit how far down the branch is pulled.

Weights can have limited use. If it achieves the outcome you want then use it. I find regular wiring way more flexible and useful.

It’s basically an ancient method of bending used by the Chinese for Penjing and also in the landscape, and likely many other nations back in the day.

History repeats itself!
