What Could It Be? No ID!

it seems 5 hours at 27°F with wind will do in this new succulent like growth. it was fine in the low 30s. the shoots reminded me of sweetgum a little. anyways, looks like the root system seems fine enough to power out some backbuds, so all might not be lost.

Looks good! I’ve heard they are difficult. Besides the point I get honey from a farmer who’s bee’s harvest the sourwood pollen. It is the best honey I’ve ever had. They are one of my favorite tree’s. Good luck to you with it. Love the fall color with the pendulous flowers.

the three trees that were attacked had about ten holes a piece around the base and right below the soil line where you won't notice. happened over night very fast. i remember seeing a few little flying bugs caught in the spider webbing of the silverberry that got hit. they must have just started flying that day. next day it was over. the fungus they rub off in the tunnels is what kills the tree. this tree wasn't that weak, but it had a lot of deadwood, especially the monstrous tap root area, that was giving off too much ethanol to resist.
