Found this pussy willow while out on a walk today, I know most of you will say toss it but I quite like the exaggerated curves and am looking to create a whimsical fairy tale type tree with it. Problem is I suck at figuring out where to make cuts for the best looking "bones" of a tree.

Anyone want to give a virtual design a go for me? I almost thought about a partial cascade but I can't quite figure out the angle to go with.

me too, but my experience with willows is that they usually lose that one branch that i really liked ( ._.)

It isn't bonsai material, just my thought.

I know its not, thats why I said "I know most of you will say toss it" but it makes me happy when I look at it so I will care for it and love regardless of if its proper or not. Just looking for advice on the best way to show off its curves.

Larry, I don't really want it just straight in a pot, I think it could be more. I'm leaving it for now, I'll worry abut cutting it more once its rooted and in a pot.

Well plant it so it's more a cascade...but through other branch is more angular and takes away from the other branch. I would remove that one.

Or literati...I still would plant at a slight slant though.

I'm not familiar with growth pattern of these. But a minimal apex at the end.

Its a willow, I have no doubts it will produce roots in a couple weeks.

Ummmmmmm, without a hint of roots, it goes in the trash can. General shape is good, but horticulture first.
I was going to make a similar comment but my assumption is he plans to root it? Willows root insanely easy according to most, right?

I'm leaning towards some soft of cascade/semi cascade. Maybe something like this. One with existing branches, one with a added branch

Or perhaps...

I always assumed a semi-cascade the plant was level with the rim of the pot...a full cascade below the rim. Your tree example has it far above the rim. So...not quite sure if that is classified as a cascade. But that's only a technicality of style. Go with what speaks to you.less foliage I would think...maybe literati.

Hmm, I do kind of like that one grim. What if I chopped even more and did this? I would need to change the front view a little I think but this is more along the size I prefer. I would take much long to create though since I'd have to chop it back a stump.
