When to start Air Layer?

I want to layer several trees this year.
- Pin Oak
- Red Field Maple
- Forthisa (sorry spelling)

When can I start this process?

When the danger of frost has passed. Up your way that's probably in Mid-april sometime.

After frost and once the leaves have 'hardened off' (are no longer soft and fragile)
