Just bought a juniper bonsai a week ago. and yesterday I noticed the white things on the needles. I have sprinkled it with city water, haven't really watered it since the soil is still moist. I live in Riverside and the weather recently was 55F to 92F. The tree was moved to a shaded area whenever the temp goes above 85F. For some reason I can't attach a pic.

Here's a pic.

Riverside, CA, or where?

Looks like the normal dying back of the male cones to me.
On junipers the male cones are tiny things that grow at the ends of the foliage like that. Once they've reached the end of their season they turn brown, or sometimes gray like yours, and will eventually fall off.
What species of juniper, do you know? Could help us be more certain.

Thanks for the response. I was in a bit of panic. First thought was FUNGUS.
I'm in Riverside, CA. We are part of the Coachella Valley to be exact.
Tying to sent pic of the tree but it kept saying ops something went wrong".

Really can't post pics.

Sometimes I run into the same issue. Not sure what it is. Could be what mobile browser you're using, or maybe just a high traffic moment on the server. Couldn't tell you really.
Maybe try closing everything out and restarting your phone, see if it helps starting fresh.

Shady you're right. Thanks. A change of browser worked. The pics above show the white things on the tips and some on the twigs of the tree.

Looks like someone did a “grip & rip” technique on the tips of the foliage. It really shouldn’t be done that way, for this very reason.

Yeah, with the new pics I'm taking back my first suggestion.
So I guess this is why they say don't pinch junipers.

Still, it should recover just fine. The damage is mostly cosmetic. Not a bad little tree.
Almost everyone here will know more about junipers than me, so you're in good hands @DryBonsai.

Stupid questions:
What is grip and rip?
Why is it bad?
I thought we're only supposed to cut the foliage.
