When watering my ginseng ficus yesterday, I saw what looked like a tiny earthworm. Is it harmful to the plant and if it is, how would I get rid of it? Thanks, Ray

If its just an earthworm keep it! :D they are very good for the soil and plant actually :)

Very good fertilizer :)

Another thing... one day old post with over 50 wievs? no one cares to reply? whats up with that?

A while back I had a thread with about 250 views. One reply. ONE.
No stupid questions, just help with design needed since I have little experience with it, I couldnt understand it either since there's bunches of people here who could help

Whelp pilgrim sometimes yuh just don't know what to say or how it will be received! :)

As for the "worm" please provide some pictures. It may be an earth worm, but more likely something else.

I would have to say...I viewed it...and no idea. When one has no initial advice it's hard to make a comment. We also have guests that look at posts. They I don't believe are allowed to respond. There are many factors to the view count.

Nobody owes anyone a response. It's not like there are a bunch of paid employees back at Bonsainut headquarters waiting to immediately reply to whatever question gets posted.

As for earthworms, I figure they're good in the ground but not necessarily in a pot. Seems like it may contribute to things getting clogged up. To get rid of one I would grab it either with my fingers or some tweezers and then toss it in the dirt beside my bench.

I didnt mean to offend anyone by saying it.. (not that i think you where mat) but for an question as easy as about an earthworm i guarantee at least half of those who have seen this post knows that they are benificial :P

Its just a bit dumb i think.. what if you needed help and went to some information office.. and nobody will answer you at all :P which i guess also happens alot lol

For what its worth. If you want to drive the worm out of the pot simply immerse the pot in water. It will come out to avoid drowning.

Hope this helps,

Bob O

It looked exactly like a large earthworm except a mini version. Next time I water I'll try the submersion watering to force the worm out. Ray

Could be a red wiggler. Those I beleive, are commonly used in compost bins.

No harm except it shouldnt be able to live in the soil. Too much dirt?

Sorce

P.s. you got the thing with posts not hitting the whats new section too...

I really like to have earthworm in the pot. It actually helps the water and oxygen enter the soil. The opposite site is that it creates lot of small crumps on the surface of the soil and the pot lip (it looks like the akadama to me) which I occasionally have to put it back to soil surface for good.

I have 25% potting soil and 75% aquarium gravel (1/8"). My plants seem to be doing well. Ray
