I notice I myself am drawn to a slant tree over an upright. It's got some gnarly look to it. Will enjoy seeing what you do with it. Is your intentions to bring about gnarly branches as well?

No more difficult to layer than any other elm- just harder to get all that corky bark off. Have you thought of a thread graft or two to fatten the base?
