Acer palmatum “Shin-deshojo”

Absolutely beautiful!
How long from nursery pot did this take, cpl years?
And his tall is it?

Thanks! Actually I also cannot see any graft. That is one of the reasons why I bought it. Maybe it did ground layer itself or the graft is just not really visible after the growth.

Hi all,

This is a Japanese maple “Shin-deshojo” I started from nursery material.

Evolution of the last years. Current pot is from Peter Krebs.

Hi what's the white covering on the wire? does that help not cut into the bark?

Paper towel. Will help with not cutting in a little (keeping an eye on it is still the safest), but also helps to not damage the bark when applying.

This is a really nice tree. I wish I could find Japanese maples at nurseries that weren’t just staked and grown tall and skinny. You’ve done an excellent job with it as well.

How’s it looking in fall color?

I like this tree, nice find. I reckon there could be a better front in there though. Are you happy with how two of the main trunks cross here, right in the middle of the composition. I wonder if the area could be fixed with guy wiring the trunks outwards, thus making space to separate the two middle ones away from each other, they appear to be fighting with one another, but this kind of composition needs some harmony going forwards imo.
and I would bury the base deeper, it would look better and stronger.
I can see some nice movement in the middle trunk to the back, but the middle trunk in front of it is obscuring it....

Hi Julio, nice find at the nursery! I’m currently looking for a shin deshojo too. And I am located in Switzerland too. Do you mind sharing which nursery is good for shin deshojo?

Hi! Sorry for the last reply, I just bought it in a generic nursery in Basel, it’s called Sitftung LBB, it was just a garden tree material that had good potential for bonsai. In Switzerland it is in Zulauf where you can find the wider variety of material, even though most is very “commercial”
