Kalanchoe bonsai?

What it looks like from outside into the basement plant room. 😂View attachment 528147
I had those lights for one winter and replaced them with full spectrum LED's, I hated them. In the basement is one thing but mine were in my kitchen where I spend most of my time. Your neighbors are probably curious...

After this one was in the greenhouse for a month, I decided to chop it back hard.

I’ve noticed that these plants tend to make to much foliage that can’t be supported by their soft tissue trunks.
Consequently, the trunk or big branches will tear then split from the weight.

I left two sprigs of healthy growth.

It’s been about two weeks and I’m seeing new red colored buds forming. IMG_1503.jpeg

One of mine (not bonsai) was so overgrown it kept falling over. So I cut it back SEVERLY. Waiting to see if it back buds 🤞I really like that pot. 👆

It should. Yeah I’ve found that it’s important to cut them back after awhile otherwise they will snap and tear down the trunk.

Today I was staring at this plant, thinking I should clean the hard water white off the leaves. When I look closer, I found a fair amount of scale attacking the plant.
Not hard water stains but scale excretion.

Made sense as the leaves were also a little weak.

I rubbed off all the visible scale and sprayed with horticultural oil.

IMG_3961.jpegI’m especially glad I noticed this because most of my ficus and umbrella trees also had some scale.
