Finally pulling out of the cold and wet it looks like.

We'll see if it helps my peppers any. I'm still rather confused about my garden. Things with similar soil needs aren't showing similar results. Lettuce has been doing great, but the chard is tiny and bolting. Tomatoes are doing ok, but peppers are looking terrible. Don't know what to think of my basil 😬 I just don't get it.

We almost got more rain last night, but ended up with just a lot of wind and some lightning in the distance. Screenshot_20250610_094145_Weather.jpg
Looking like more rain this afternoon. Getting cloudy now, so seems like a great time for a hike.

Got a header board on my wifes new she shack
to make an uncovered 16x12 addition.
6x16 just not enough for the swing.

70% RH dropped to 67 in 10 minutes but storms brewing so will be higher soon. Heat index above 95° Dew pt 75° I'm soaked.

Warm today. Just took a 2K hike and flagged some potential yamadori for collection this winter.
Triple digits; summer came late, but she's making her presence known now.
Showing 46% chance for rain this afternoon, but clouds are already building in the west, so we probably won't see any. In my experience, if I can see clouds on the horizon before 1400 or 1500, they will break up about when they arrive, if they even last that long.

Happy Flag Day!
Humidity is up today. No rain yesterday, and not expecting any for a while now. This has been one of the wettest Junes I can remember here. We've had about 4" so far. The "rainy" season doesn't usually start until the end of next month or early August. Hoping for some good monsoon moisture this year.

How's 80% for RH late afternoon ?
20250616_162603.jpg
It rained a quick sprinkle before noon 0.05"
so barely. At least it's overcast but I'm not out digging with the posthole digger today.
Good time to be applying fungicide.

No, but thanks for offering. 😅Screenshot_20250616_161830_Weather.jpgScreenshot_20250616_161936_Weather.jpg
Strangely enough, I'm actually glad for the full FR coveralls we are required to wear. I had some form of "oma" removed from my neck two or three years ago, so I am more careful about my UV exposure these days. But those coveralls have absolutely zero airflow. SO HOT!🥵

6 dead around Wheeling WV in flash flooding Sat night.
Wheeling is in the upper panhandle of WV between Pennsylvania and Ohio.

More rain to come here and will make next weeks mid 90s F gruesome. The ground is saturated and we are under flash flood watch.
Trees leaved out will add to the power outs with drenched roots and gusty storms Tu snd Th.

It’s still raining here, but looks like the sun is coming out shortly.

Not sure why yesterday's temperature is showing 11° lower than it actually was. You know it's really hot when 96° feels like a cool down.
The only clouds were yesterday, and those were clouds of smoke from the boiling asphalt on the roads.

Our first 100F day tomorrow. We don't usually get that hot until August, though July isn't uncommon. The past couple years, though, it seems the heat has been hitting earlier and earlier.

I remember when it didn't bother me so much; just drink water, and keep a slow steady pace. I can't deal with it like I used to any more. Keep telling myself I need to get in better shape, but then remember I'm the only 43 yo I know who'll freehand climb a 30 foot tree with a sawzall to trim broken branches; nope; just getting old. Can't make that climb in 100F weather any more.

I was about your age (maybe a little younger) when I decided to "trim" my 40? foot pecan tree that was abandoning branches pre plandemic. With a bow saw. And no harness. After removing about 4 sizable branches, we decided maybe it'd be a good idea to rent a manlift. FF to today, tree is dead, branches removed. My neighbor let me use his chainsaw for the wood. Then, after at least 2 tons of free wood, he was going to rent me his big chainsaw for $200 to fell the rest of the tree. Really, dude? And pecan is amazing smokewood! Time to prep the fireplace as a smoker.
For what it's worth, swinging an ax is a great workout.

60°F overnight for the last time for a while.
Cold front came through dropping our humidit
but the ground is saturated for now.

Happy Summer solstice 10:42 PM tonight EST.
Once this heat wave breaks I'll be back to posthole digging and starting a new deck.
There's a foot of water in the 2 current holes that are 15 x 30 inches.

Hot & then hot & humid. Summer was shot out of cannon. 🥵
Here, too. We don't usually have much of a spring, but it's been a weird year. Then it was hot, just all at once.

Humidity is very high for us, especially this time of year. It might turn into rain in a few hours, another strange phenomenon we've seen a lot more so far this past month or so. If it happens at all, our monsoon season usually starts middle of next month or August.
Our forecast for temps in the 80s is quite low. Might have to break out the parkas next week.

I don't mind the rain as long as it's enough rain so I don't have to water. I'm inside hiding from the heat right now. I go outside for 20-30 minutes then come back in and cool off. Wash, Rinse, Repeat. Humidity is 60% so it's not too bad. :) When the humidity is above 80% then I hide in the house all day.
