I'm really surprised at this well known finicky tree...it's not skipped a beat. I thinned it and repotted it. And it never once sulked as I had imagined it would. It is a tree from a friend's late brother in law who was a bonsai enthusiast if ones recall. It maybe a stick in the pot. But...to know I am giving it life...and taking it further for this one who enjoyed the hobby. Is actually rewarding...just going to let it grow and recover...but, it's been a few weeks and the tree has started pushing new growth. I'm shocked and amazed...

My little stick in the pot...

Just a reminder of where this tree was at as of last year when I received it.

Thanks...for a stick in the pot...yeah, I do enjoy it. Just knowing how far it's came in my care. Can't wait for blooms...it will look smashing agasint the glaze effect of Glynn Harris's of Erin Pottery's sweet little pot. The tray it rests on...is a repurposed windchime...minus the annoying noise makers.

@Mellow Mullet ...thanks again for helping me see the tree within. I owe the direction of where it's at...to your sketch and helping me see...there was potential.

When it's healthy I would halve the height... good save.
I've removed some height along the way...from then until now...But, you are right...the trunks on these NEVER thicken much. It will always be a stick in the pot...but, sentimentally...my now stick in the pot. Because another...had a love of the same hobby.

Funny you posted this... I was working on the base of one young one today. Pretty certain it is 3 years old now from a cutting but @armetisius can confirm. When I received it last year it was about 18 - 20 inches tall and I cut it back to 14 or so. It grew a lot over Winter so I took it down to 6 inches and four leafs 2 weeks ago. Today I exposed a little more root and will need to cut off 4 inches or so as it went to over a foot in two weeks. What I wanted to show you here is the base before I top it with Sphagnum -

Very nice @GrimLore! Curious if it a different cultivar than mine. Bloom color?

White, pretty certain it is the Snowflake variety but I am pretty certain others that don't show any variegation would grow even faster. But I will not know for certain until they are available.

That is the one from last year? It would have been struck the year before;
so that makes it two years old and several weeks. Makes all the difference
if they are root spread when potting initially. And they seem to show out
if they are given all the root run they can use for the first year at least.
Preferably for the first three or four to build some trunk and movement.
Only got four left from that lot and they are looking very interesting to me.
Have another few weeks before I go chop crazy on them for this season. It
will give it enough time for the new growth to harden off before frost and
put some wicked curves in the future trunks. :p

Been potting those slips of the other varieties this week.
Soon and very soon they will be ready.

Darlene,

as the rain falls, I get some time to visit, otherwise, I am out casting concrete and planting cocoa/coffee and maybe some sugar cane.
Eventually Africanised bees.

The Chinese type not only trunk thickens [ saw them in the UK at 3+ inches ] but grow rapidly, they just don't like wet feet.
Great surface roots and gnarly branches.
Can grow to at least 8 feet in height and flowers heavily from May/June - also known as June Snow.

Simple shrub, can handle zone 7 in the ground, if acclimated, in a pot probably back to zone 9/8.
Grown outdoors in China.

If grown from roots with shoots, you can get amazing shapes.

As I get some time I will send you a few images.
Glad to see you made out of Central America, with no Zika or Chick-v and any other odd ball ailment.
Stay Healthy.
Good Day.

Ahhh well, though the rain surely is setting you back...it was a pleasant surprise to see you post. Will defiantly look into one...that is amazing the size they can get in nature. Never would have guessed that of a Serissa. Sounds like your a very busy man most days...so...I'm glad you have a few moments you can get in a breather from it all.

Thank you...lived in Deep Woods off...and STILL found myself bitten out of the team...I was the target. But...I fared well...other than getting what the Seattle Washington woman brought in with her...I've what the doctor says is reactive airways. Sort of like asthma feeling...all the time. But, am feeling a bit better with the medication she gave me. It was funny...how...when they learned I got sick in a third world country...the nurse stepped back from me. Once I assured her other than the Zika and Chikungunya virus...no one was ill in the village we visited this year. She came back closer to me. Saying...state crud then...I nodded my head...and she laughed.

I was more alarmed with the riot we drove through...than the Viruses...that was like some movie set...that was playing out in real life...and seeing a bus similar to ours...on fire...set because one didn't pay for protection. No one was killed in that incident thank goodness...but...the rioting...we had no clue about...but, at lunch when we stopped after being picked up at the airport...seeing no security stationed at any stores had us all alarmed. It's never been like that before. Even Wendy's has an armed person at their door...all were missing. Being pulled to help assist with the college students who had made their way behind the presidential palace gates.

Will be keeping an eye out for the suggested material...if something speaks to me...and is relatively a shohin I may nab it. For it will winter indoors...and size is an issue.

Good day...take care...good hearing from you.

This innocent pup...I believe unearthed it during winter. Two days wired into a pot with its substrate spilled out. For I watered every other day. He won't leave the bottom grow cart alone. We had tried taking down the gate between the front room and kitchen, dining and sunroom location. And...that is when it happened. He can't be trusted to anything on that lower grow carts shelf. He likes to sniff the plants. Gate is back up. But lost two trees...

My 2 year old is the same way. I have a little hackberry that has had half the soil spilled out 3 times this year. It's still alive somehow.

Ahh dang. My dog and my sisters dog(s) that come over also discriminately destroy plants that are on the ground. It's odd, they'll go weeks without touching one and then without reason rampage and destroy several. So I know how you feel

This winter we had more snow than usually. My trees were mulched in the ground as always. My mother's dog did some decisions instead of me. Mulberry chopped...maple branch taper is gonna be improved...new twin trunk maple out of tripple trunk. I will have to protect that area with some removable light fence...or?
