Time to collect a couple elms....

Grabbed one yesterday morning before my repotting frenzy. This tree was intriguing to me. It was in an area that burned a couple years back. The deadwood was caused by the fire and stretched about 6ft up the trunk, but the top was still alive and blooming when I collected it!!! When I chopped, it was all dead! WTF???
Nevertheless this tree will always remind me that trees are tougher then we'll ever know.20170307_173606.jpg 20170307_173615.jpg
Deadwood is very nicely weathered.

Those buds are making those trunks look way small.....

Follow....

That is dope as shit cuz that bark is awesome on such a small trunk!

Are these a smaller couple trees?
They seemed bigger before.

Those buds are in great places!

3 year project!

Do you keep them all in the greenhouse?

If you were to keep one outside and right acclimate it for as cold as possible I would totally buy one!

Keep that in mind!

Oddly the buds are very big compared to normal! But they tend to react well when the Temps are high after collection, you literally get WAY more budding then you'll ever need. The smallest one I dug was the curvy guy on page 1 with about a 1.5"trunk., then there 2 that are about 3", the rest all are decent size to monsters lol the first one with the giant buds has a base of 13"!!!

Nope, I only protected them in my coldhouse for about 2 weeks from the start because of our wind storms we have in spring. These guys are good down to zone 2 I believe. I'll give you a good deal on one, you know that!

I'll give you a good deal on one, you know that!

I don't want a good deal!

I want as cold hardy a tree as you can make! You know how I like em!

After which, I got no problems supporting your goals!

None whatsoever!

Well I appreciate that sorce, but I still like to give friends a deal. @Soldano666 snagged up one from last spring, last month, it had already started budding so I'm interested to see how that baby is doing up in the frozen north.

Still sleeping for me which is perfect, our weather that's taken a u turn straight back into winter

If you get one in the spring now and leave it outside it will acclimate to your area by winter.
There's 2 key words about these trees.
Siberian. Elm.
They come from one of the coldest parts of the world. Siberia.
And elm. One of the toughest, most adaptable trees on the planet.
You can't find big ones by you?

You can't find big ones by you?

Nothing worth collecting, or possible to collect yet.

Buying one from Aaron would be more about support than need!

And it would be cool!

He's going to need an athletic supporter lugging these giant stumps around!

He should take notes from @wireme And train a team of Gila Monsters to pull him through the desert on a pupose built sled which is really a multi tree grow box on skis.....

That way he can plant the trees directly upon removal from the ground.

Mush the sled home, and put the skis on the next sled.

Of course, some of this is Bullshit, we know a trained team of Gila Monsters isn't strong enough to pull a sled!

Replace that with a quad, or a human, and a guy really could get out there and collect a shitload of trees without much need for support.

"Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world."
