identifying tree in backyard to see if I should make into bonsai

@CasAH
No problem ;)

I was not feeling offended

I mean i know it sucks that much trees died by the disease but i realy dont think me sending someone some elm seeds will cause such an tragedy from happening again

So in fact we could call it the chinese elm disease from now on lol

I just recall being a kid and going to my grandmother's house in Chicago and all of these stately elm trees lining the street. Their branches would touch over the center of the street, and would be lit in a cool green gold color as the Sun filtering through the leaves every Summer. Two years later every tree in the neighborhood was cut down.

The only good that came out of this is that Chicago plants a variety of trees in the parkways to avoid having every tree for miles killed by one disease.

Im only 28 now but
I know what ya mean by seeing those memorys dissapear
The town i am born and raised and raise my kids now is over 650 years registered as a city and estimated to be way older
That aside the old part of town has a defensive wall around wich were elms planted on over 60% of that trees either died or removed now i rember walking past them or seeing them from the distance now its a green wall with gaps

Brian, I know this as I was friends with people, since pasted away, that spent their life's work trying to develop a Dutch Elm disease resistant elm that would have the classic weeping vase shape of the original mature American elm.

They worked at the Morton Arbiritum in Lisle, IL. I helped them in the field studying other native trees and priairies in the Chicago area.

The disease was introduced through imported lumber through Holland shortly after WWII.

Both may be true....
