The wild cactus around here won't bloom for a couple more months, but they are spectacular when it happens. I'll be collecting prickly pears at the end of summer for cooking with, and have a few seeds from last year I need to find a place to plant.

That one is a Mammillaria vetula gracilis, the rare subespecies with red flower, the more common one:

The needles on this one are incredible. I've always wondered how much of the needle growth on cactus is breed vs care. I've never had opportunity to cultivate cactus before, so there's so much I really have no clue about.

Do you know what species this is ? I can see a label but I can't read the hebraic alphabet...
It says that its a Bell Plum for the direct translation. On further investigation it might be Taiwan Cherry (Prunus campunulata), I will be trying to take a few cuttings and air layers on the tree this year and next for sure.

@Arnold - I marvel at your restraint, there are no teeth marks from you gnawing on the Lophophora cactus. Mine never got a chance to get that old, I would end up eating them.

It takes years to get a Lophophora up to flowering size, in my climate, they are quite slow.

Man, do they ever grow slow. Mine have changed so little in 5 years. They are about nickle size now.
