It does need to put on additional girth and to bark up. That will indeed involve years of growth. Okay, I want to do the approach graft to a trident I have. What time of year is best to do this? Is this something I can begin now. My trident leafed about 4 weeks ago.

Jeremy, I am not a Boon student, but I think you should buy this tree and keep it alive in that medium for a couple of seasons so you can have the last laugh .

One thing odd about that picture after repot. The pot looks like it is in some kind of plastic bowl. What is that? Has the sick elm been inside this whole time? I live in Dallas area, my Chinese elm gets full unfiltered sun through our brutal summers and laughs.

Good material, great start. If you were taking lessons, your instructor would likely have you wire out to the tips on every branch. I know mine did. And so I still do. Its a good habit to get into. Plus you get pretty good at wiring as well.

So how does that pine mix work out for you? Do you find any challenges with the turface being smaller than the lava and the pumice?
