    Zelcova Nire

Thanks for showing in dormant state so we can see the structure. Now I can't wait to see it in leaf. Very curious this one. Did you purchase this in bonsai nursery in Belgium?

    Trident Maple

Chris your tree is nice. Your last virt is nice too. Not at all cookie cutter either way. While you could just lower the right branch, it could be removed and one thread grafted where you wanted it. This species is the material to do it with. You could remove the left branch and thread graft one...

    New SW White Pine

Correct, the term whorl is often used with pine species that have a habit of putting out opposing branches at the same internode. If you look at pines in the wild, this gives them an interesting tiered look...

    New SW White Pine

It does need to put on additional girth and to bark up. That will indeed involve years of growth. The good thing is those years will teach you how to deal with the different seasons for this species and it's unique growth habits. You might want to bring to the local Bonsai club to get additional...

    Healing a chop

Okay, I want to do the approach graft to a trident I have. What time of year is best to do this? Is this something I can begin now. My trident leafed about 4 weeks ago.

Really great job with turning an ugly stump into a compelling tree.

    Pine soil

Jeremy, I am not a Boon student, but I think you should buy this tree and keep it alive in that medium for a couple of seasons so you can have the last laugh .

    Elm repot not doing well

One thing odd about that picture after repot. The pot looks like it is in some kind of plastic bowl. What is that? Has the sick elm been inside this whole time? I live in Dallas area, my Chinese elm gets full unfiltered sun through our brutal summers and laughs.

    First Bonsai In Training

Good material, great start. If you were taking lessons, your instructor would likely have you wire out to the tips on every branch. I know mine did. And so I still do. Its a good habit to get into. Plus you get pretty good at wiring as well.

Hello, my name is Dave and I'm a turface user.

So how does that pine mix work out for you? Do you find any challenges with the turface being smaller than the lava and the pumice?

    Source for non-white Pumice

You can always pick the white pieces off the surface.

    Tident project open thead

I think all the comments about a chop are roughly in agreement, and I agree as well. The end design will include only the lower 2/3 of the tree. That said, help me to understand something so I don't spend years going in the wrong direction. I want to allow for complete heal of the scar. Is this...

    Collected Elm

If that's the parent tree and its entirely possible that it is, then you have some variety of Chinese elm. Very common as landscape trees especially in the southern part of the country, because they are tolerant of so many things. I agree with the suggestion to chop to the secondary trunk. Make...

how much do you spend on a decent to good tree??

The linked item on E-bay says best offer available, but if one looks at the history, one offer and it states was rejected. It says originated in Thailand, but if free shipping in the USA is offered it musts be here already and past quarantine. There is a link on the page to other botanicals of...

    Collected cedar elm

I apologize for the hasty pictures, but I wanted to take a few just after potting, and the rain was just starting. It has been in a 5 gallon nursery pot for the past 5 years. It was left and neglected in the corner of my yard, but it thrived putting out a lot of growth. Today I broke out the...
