2025 National Bonsai Exhibition photos

I really need to visit one of these events... What I would give to study good bonsai in person 🫠 some seriously gorgeous pieces, two that caught my eye for sure was that gorgeous bald cypress!
Really shows everything I love about the species, amazing fluting, some cute knees and simple magnificent age..
I also adore this tree! I truthfully can't tell what it is. I suspect a maple? Nonetheless it's gnarly design is breathtaking, I really have so many questions about this tree and would've loved to ask it's creator about it, I feel like it's very much design choice and not even slightly accidental. I want to ask about the inspiration but also why not attempt to hollow the tree completely. 😮‍💨

Why must I not have beautiful shows like this in my backyard! I crave to understand the artists and the though process! But these trees are really inspiring and give me a lot to think about

Thanks for all the photos! Really like a bunch of these trees….

Of course the Kaho Satsuki has got to be one of the very best. But it was a display tree from UMich. Does anyone know if this was a Prof Melvin Goldstein product?

This used to be Mel's. He donated most of his collection to the university. They're just now taking the rest of his shohin. He only playing with mame now.

This is wild. That lizard must have a serious investment in that tree to make the trip all the way up from Florida.
Funny, I had one hitch a ride on my Grewia (2016) on the way home. Sadly it wasn't very hardy for my climate. 😢 😢

First tree is like: I ran out of cut paste and started to embrace the scars??

I really have little idea what is going on here but I am fascinated.
There were three maples like that on display. The other two were in leaf. It seems like people are exploring what can be done with scarification/deadwood on maples. @Cadillactaste would be proud.
