HI everybody,
last week we had a spell of unusual warm and sunny weather over here, so I decided it was about time to do my first major styling I have planed for several of my trees for this year. The large yamadori "Larch" in this story was ready for its second branch structure styling. The "Larch" story Part 1, about the collecting and first styling of this tree, you can find under this link:

http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/f83/larch-story-23325.html

I really took my time, working on this tree. Enjoying every minute of that relaxed and zone like feeling that comes over me when I'm guiding the trees branches as closely, as safely is posible, to their envisioned future shape. Overcoming or incorporating little problems ,that I came across while working, with out giving it much real thoughts. Some times things just fall together when I am working on a old tree like this one, when instinct takes over, with the sun in your face....MMMMMM!
Remember it is only the second structure styling, the top will fill out and thicken quickly in the next couple of years and there is about a Inch more trunk hidden behind the rime of that plastic container, as you can see in one of the pictures! In real live the tree is taller and the base is wider and the whole tree is looking more balanced.
First picture is taken when I just started to work.
In a few months, after all the Spring work is don, I will start working on the deadwood.
I hope you enjoy it,
Hans van Meer.

A update on the story!

Hi everybody,
And thanks for your replies. I left the long Jin not only on this tree, because it fits the story and image of this battered high mountain Larch. I also think it adds something extra to it's overall character and beauty when the tree is more mature in it's branches and foliage. I will start reducing the large stump under the right branch in the next couple of weeks. I cut out the front and the back off the plastic tub, so I and you could finally see the tree in one piece, I think this old Larch looks promising with it's short and freshly green colored foliage. I hope you like it to?
Regards,
Hans van Meer.

Drool, drool and more drooling. Beautiful tree, beautiful work.

Lovely foliage - I love the shaving bristle effect when it comes out in Spring. Will the big pruning cut in the fourth photo heal over / blend in quickly? Was a jin inappropriate in that position or is this the beginning of a uro?

You are a great artist Hans - some day I will come over and see you and your trees.

Hi
I just have a small question,

Is it normal for the tips of needles on a larch to turn brown as the buds are opening? It isnt over the whole tree just here and there. Its on my japanese larch.

That is a nice tree its one of the coolest larches ive seen, how old is it??

Fantastic! Can't wait to dig me some larch. Any Ideas for a future pot?

Absolutely inspirational. I am hooked, you must continue to post future pics. Your wiring skills are incredible.

I can only hope my larch turns out 1/4 that good. very beautiful tree.
