That must be true : the "bonsai" is in full sun whereas the motehr-plant is mainly in the shade.

Here's one of mine, sun from 9 to 17. Its colours are as golden as the Acer shirasawanum 'aureum' in the foreground. I have anothe one, the mother plant, that I keep in 100% shade :

It was OK, no leaf spot except a few at the end of the season. It fares much better in almost full shade.
