My first successful air layer, started July 8th and separated September 4th. It's a shishigashira Japanese maple, a dwarf cultivar. Slip potted from a pod of peat moss into 2/3 peat moss 1/3 perlite.

Will keep this updated, just wanted to document the progress and ask for any advice if anyone has any. My plan from here is to leave it to grow and recover for the rest of this growing season and the entirety of the rest.

If anyone has any advice or questions, I would love to hear them.

Looking good! I would just recommend leaving it in a shady spot to recover since you have a small root system supporting a large amount of foliage for the time being.

My only advice when it comes to JM air-layers is: make sure you seal the bottom of the air-layer, and make sure you use 100% inorganic soil. JM are very susceptible to fungus, and I have lost more JM air-layers to fungus than all other causes combined.
