I was given one of those rooter pots specifically designed for air layer. Supposedly if you keep the reservoir in them filled the media will always stay moist. So I had only been watching the reservoir for the first two weeks or so after doing the layer and it was always full. Problem is, it doesn't work as advertised. Something told me to look inside the pot and check the moss myself and low and behold it was almost dry, if not completely. I immediately moistened it, and have been checking it myself now regularly and will keep it moist but I'm not sure if the time it dried will affect it or not. Any thoughts? It's still early, I'm hoping to leave it on all summer long.

The beauty of airlayer is that the top is still being fed by the mother plant. If the airlayer is just done, then there is no root yet to die, should be no problem. IF it was done long ago that there are roots already, then dry substrate would kill those roots and you'll need to grow a new set.
