The city of Columbus, Ohio, has started fighting back against the rapid takeover of Amur Honeysuckle. A vacant lot near my home was bulldozed two or three years ago so I decided to go looking for survivors the other day and found this little guy.
Not much bigger in diameter than a quarter, and held off the ground by two root shoots. At this point it reminds me of a science fiction robot or an orbiting satellite, with the dead branches pretty much horizontal and straight like antennae.
I took it out of the ground with a lot of extra dirt around the roots and set it in the basket 'as is', with some top soil I had filling in all the gaps. I don't see any problems with the transplant, but I wanted to give it the best chance possible. Next spring I think I'll prune the roots down and put it in a much smaller container. Maybe cut the tips of the growth.
Anyway, let me know what you think.
PS. I'm disappointed with the crappy pictures but my good camera is out of action at the moment.
