So, not all that long ago I posted that I was new to Bonsai and looking for friends in my area - and then almost immediately had to move .
I'll have to change my profile info, but in the meantime -
Anyone near New Bern NC?

There are clubs in both Raleigh and Wilmington.. Triangle Bonsai Society in Raleigh and the Cape Fear Bonsai Club out of Wilmington

I'm a bit late to the party but I was just about to post about this exact issue. I'm closer to Greenville than New Bern but it seems like this part of the state is a real desert when it comes to Bonsai, which is a shame because we have such an ideal climate for a variety of species to thrive. Have you had any luck since posting about finding any bonsai circles closer than Raleigh/Wilmington? I considered joining the triangle bonsai society, but I can't stomach making a weekly hour plus drive especially with my work's long and irregular hours.
