arakawa back budding

been looking at a jm arakawa at a good price with the rough bark starting to form low on the trunk,but not on the branches.
the budding is far out on the branches so it would need some back budding.

i seem to remember reading that they were tough to get to back bud,but i think this was refering to areas where the rough bark has already formed.
will they back bud on the branches that are smooth bark?

It is a Maple - it will back bud

Yes. They backbud pretty well, especially on smoother wood.

They back bud well, and thread graft well too, if you don't get a bud just where you want it.
