Bald Cypress - Help Me Find The Front

I like either 2 or 3, can't really choose.

This has happened to me with a few trees, where you see it from a different angle (back or side) and suddenly realize that should be the front. It's almost like I had become fixated on one aspect of the tree and tried to force the front based on that, when in reality there is a better overall view. I know as a relative beginner, I sometimes am guilty of "following the rules" too much, especially the one that says the best view is the one that shows the widest nebari.

2 has the most movement ánd the nebari looks the big. 1 is good because the nebari feels even bigger, but the straightness and looks are not inviting / less movement.

Great tree. As my BC has developed over the last decade or so, it's back also became its front. Apparently, that's not uncommon. I've heard Guy Guidry says the same thing about his trees
Happened to me too, with several different trees over the years, and I'm considering another. I think sometimes we work on the front so much that it becomes predictable and the back becomes more exciting.

Nice BC Zach, I'm thinking #2.

#2 definitely shows the best movement to my eye, but there's something I can't quite define about #3 that just feels good/right to me, even though the slight turn loses a bit of the curve and the base width from #2 . . . I wish I could see it in person!
It's a cool piece of material regardless; thanks for posting it.

I had that same feeling and for me, I think, its because of that shadow midway up the trunk which gives it extra depth.

Thank, Brian.

Zach, picture number two.......definitely. If I squint just so, I can see an eerie tree monster waiting to pounce on an unsuspecting traveler. Or......I could just be losing it. %^ }

Thank you, Joe! I'm thinking about bringing this tree to the club meeting on Tuesday, in case you plan to attend.

Because the tree won't look as good from an angle that would serve that purpose, and the chop is going to heal completely in another four or five years anyway.

According to the back/front phenomenon as discussed, in four or five years, you might want to chose the new back, so I change my vote back to the original front, so the other front won't be shitty when the wound heals!

:confused:

Five years is a long time from now! Who knows what could happen, eh?
