This is my first post here. I have been looking for a good single trunk barberry for a while when I found this one. Usually around here I find pots with 3-5 pencil sized growths jamed together. This one is about 1" in diameter, and 30" tall. I am eventually shooting for shohin size.
My main questions at this point is when can I safely hard prune and do some rootwork. Given the time of year I figured I would need to wait until spring, but wasnt sure if both taskes can be completed at the same time. It is currently in a 2 gallon nursery can with lots if roots. I work in a commercial greenhouse and have access to overwintering it in there if needed.

Thanks for the reply; I will do just that.

Berberis Thumbergii are very resilient when hard pruned in late winter. Here in 7b thats about mid-late march. I wouldnt hesitate with repotting at same time. I agree with leo.
