This is a follow up to my first post. I have some money (a couple hundred) coming on paypal and would like to use it directly. I am wanting beginner supplies and hoped people have suggestions of the good vendors on ebay or other online folks that accept paypal.

I am looking for a beninner set of tools ( concave cutter, jin pliers, maybe a root rake--I assume regular wire cutters will work for now), I'd also like wire--a nice selection for getting started, maybe some pots (though I found a couple at my local nursery) and maybe some trees, maybe one for styling (nothing outrageously fancy) and a few for training to pot up next year and the following years.

I've got some air-layers going and a couple of elms in the woods next door that I have cut down and are starting to back-bud nicely.

I potted up one boxwood from Home Depot, that is clearly not a bonsai, but was to keep my interest up. I haven't wired it but I have trimmed it some.SANY0035.jpg

Wow, those Houtoku pots are very reasonably priced. What is the downside? Do they not last?

I have never had one break.I particularly like their shallow ovals.Just simple lines and affordable.Excellant quality, though I never even touched a tokoname. The Houtoku ring like a bell if you knock them with your knuckle.

No downside; they're just mass-produced, nothing special pots...Kind of like vases at Pier 1; functional, not unattractive, but not valuable. I've had a bunch of houtoku pots in use for 10-15 years and they hold up fine. Most are good clay, high fired, decent everyday pots.
