I can say that Virginia Creeper seedlings start off with 3 lobes, and as the mature begin making 5 lobes. I have so many Virginia Creeper seedlings sprout in my property is looks like Poison Ivy. It took awhile but I'm able to tell the difference now when they are seedlings with the 3 lobes.

I've not personally seen it as three and change to five leaves for Virginia Creeper. My husband does his best to rid it early with it invasive and grows like crazy all over our area. Which was why it took him years to come to like the Virginia Creeper I have for bonsai. Had a chance to sell it to one who was in love with it. For a crazy amount...and he was so against my selling it. That it stayed.

I'm forever removing young starts out of my landscape. It's always been 5 leaf when I pull it from the soil. So that makes me pause.
