Just put in training box. No wiring done yet, gotta bring the lower branches down. Think it has nice movement. Top third will bend back to the left. Open space next to trunk but that's what I got. And I know they don't bud back so hoping to bend some branches back to help. What do you think?image.jpg

Ps. Rope is temporary!

I think it has great potential. As long as you can dedicate your time to controling new growth watering properly and pinching (if I'm still allowed to use that word) the new growth.

I think this tree has great bones. With no wire and a just q hard prone it seems like it has many advantages! Nice score.

Yeah I've been reading other post and it's like a 40 year old son that won't move out! Lol!
I'm sure it's not the easiest tree to take of but why not right? Thanks for the confidence boost!
Read that they like a lot of water, draining good of course. And tend to die back with lack of sun light.

I think you are allowed to use that word 'pinch', Vance. But with Hinoki, one must be a bit more specific about it. IMHO, the results aren't very pretty if one pinches all the little pinchable ends one can find (these are the buds).

BTW, Rick Moguin's 'bible of hinoki' [my characterization] is still on line, explaining what 'pinching' Honoki means. But I, for one, warmly welcome your tutorial, Vance.

I think I will keep my tutorial on Hinokis to my self for now, but thank you all the same.
