I....won... a pot a year or so ago. An expensive one ....for me... ;) ($150)

Anyhow, it's way too tall for any of my trees except a tall crabapple that would look good in a blue pot.

Subject pot is unglazed natural.

I don't think I'd mind if it even flaked or faded. It sure can't be ...baked... with the tree in it. o_O
Even just a hint of blue for contrast with the flowers would be okay.

Let me get this straight--you're willing to ruin a decent pot to make it "contrast" flowers that may, or may not, be present on the tree for a couple of weeks in the spring? ;-)

The blue WON'T make the crabapple look any better. Painting the pot will make it look pretty crummy, low-rent and amatuerish especially after the paint starts to peel off and the flowers are gone.

Why is that a good idea?

Unglazed is an EXCELLENT choice for a deciduous tree modeled on the more rugged side (and crabs either are, or become more rugged as they age).

Why not just use it unglazed?

PLEASE, don't paint a nice pot. If you don't like it sell it or save it for a plant worthy. You have not shown the pot but pots come in different sizes and styles to go with certain styles and sizes of bonsai. I appreciate that you want a blue pot for your crab, so buy one and don't ruin a good pot.

Trade!

Mycorrhiza you can do whatever you want!

Put that painted pot next to your outdoor light setup!

If you have access to a kiln you can add any color glaze to it, but since its now vitrified the glaze might have difficulties sticking and run off while firing. If you talk to a potter that makes their own glaze they can modify a glaze to help keep it from running.

I wouldn't paint. If you want another color, sell this pot and buy one that matches what you want. But to echo @rockm painting the pot will look bad.

This is true but you have to know the clay body. If you fire it hotter than intended for a particular clay body you may have a meltdown and lose pot and kiln.
To get glaze to stick to vitrified clay body or another glaze spray the piece very lightly with cheap hairspray. I have down that many times, 4 times this week alone.

My "outdoor light setup" is 93 million miles away. Makes it hard to schedule maintenance. :p

Don't you have some roots to dissect or something? 🙃

Very true, and I would say a glaze max cone 6 to be on the safe side

I remember nothing. ..... NOTHING, I tell you..... NOTHING !!! 🤢

What is happening (or has happened) is that I called another place that assured me they had a MARVELOUS selection of pots but when I got there, all they had in blue was low wide "stuff" that is the same as everyone else has. With the exception that they were priced at about three times what I usually expect. They were also unfettered with anchor wire holes and not quite level on the legs. 😟

Soooooooooooo..... the more I looked, pondered, and cogitated, the gooder the present one (the expensive "wrong" one) transformed itself into a harmonious composition that will most likely end up growing in the pot to a gnarled and wide nebari wonderment that will elicit great praise on my rare luck at finding such a perfect yamadori and all notice of the pot it's in will fade to insignificance in the shadow of the GREAT CRABAPPLE of the ages! 😀

No one suggested wrapping it in colored foil like a cheapie gift plant. 🥴

I was trying to think along those lines.

Shine it with blue led s.

I like the foil.

Or wax.
