So I got these two new trees today, shipped from Georgia. Not crazy about getting plant material from that far out of state but they were priced well and both are hardy in my zone. Looking for styling advice on both, but mainly the Deodar. I don't plan on doing anything for a month or two as it is getting hot and they were shipped and want to give them time to recuperate or avoid any potential shock. They Cryptomeria I plan on doing the pads/topiary styling and try to round of the top. The Deodar was a bit unplanned, but a nice tree I think. Was thinking a nice semi formal upright, leaving some of its natural habit. But some of the Deodar's I see online planted at an angle are quite interesting. I'm open to any suggestions.

Pics are incoming (via phone)

The Crypto is ‘Black Dragon’ and the deodar is labeled as a blue deodar cedar as the needles are blue, but not quite as much as a blue atlas cedar.

That is a nice Crypto, but unfortunately mines trunk is not that interesting at the moment. I'll be leaving both in the nursery pots for some time to try and grow them out.

I know this is of a masters, and mine would be more narrow but LOVE this style and feel that this tree species is a relatively easy one to attain some form of it with its dense needles.

@grouper52 posted a nice progression thead of a crypto that you might find informative/inspirational, @Jzack605. He has some albums and other posts that may inspire you (just use the BNut search function).

I just checked in to the site tonight, and was linked here by an "alert" to your post, Osoyoung ... thank you very much for your kind words. It sounds, however, like Jzach605 is enamoured with the "topiary" approach to things, so I'll just stay out of it ... :)

I’m definitely intrigued by the topiary style, especially for trees that lend to that style.
