Delve into a newbies garden! 😎

Had to remove a lot of deadwood (well rotten wood) on the potentilla. Quite like how it's shaping up though. Managed to get some wiring done. Wired some of the smaller branches at the end of a few of the thicker ones, probably needn't have bothered but oh well.

Am finding it quite difficult to picture how thick I want the branches to end up (I know they're not there yet!), and so when to cut back? Any thoughts?

A potentilla I've had in the ground around 4 years think. Was growing well so gave a little prune. Also going to remove the red branches I think, maybe leaving a stump on that middle branch for some deadwood

New one that I'm unsure what to do with... It's an ulmus hollandica (Dutch elm - @leatherback , any experience / knowledge?)

Gave it a chop, unsure whether to go further - red line? The section above the red line is rather straight / uninteresting!

I'm seeing a cascade but don't have any experience with this style so any thoughts warmly welcome!
