The areas are spotty on a crappy old juniper procumbens nana. I was tempted to cut it in half an put the new half in a pot, but figured I better wait and see what it is. I guess it's permenant but is there anything else anyone can tell me? Besides just watch an wait. It's living on the top LOL and today I noticed half way between the trunk and the top a small branch fell off when I touched it and more waiting to drop off. I'll probably find more spots tomorrow.

I'm just gonna pick the dead one's off.
There was one branch that was trimmed before I got the tree that has the problem with new growth.
It shouldn't of been trimmed maybe. It's not a big deal yet anyway.
I got new ideas but I don't know if I should post them yet.

I wonder if this would work?sorce suggested this an air layer for a raft in another post with a tree that looks exactly the same,a little bigger than this. So I'm thinkin an air layer but lower the only thing is "look what's left".

Did I really say that?
Lol..

Was it a juniper?

It could work.

Well can you explain to me how that air layer would make a raft layer?I couldn't understand it so I took a stab since the 2 trees have similarities. And my version wouldn't make better material to work with and maybe I should just let it pot bound itself and wait til next year, or if I could get another one the same size for cheap ($$$$$$$$) I could twine them together and then kill one and make deadwood out of it. I'm just looking for ideas! If I do it my or your way I'm not left with much. It's a shame they sell something like this with out enough material to work on. I was led to think it was something with some progression and alternatives to styling. This thing don't have any that I can see other than what I mentioned. I find pics like this that gets me thinking

I think this is what you had in mind.

And this is just about the same thing, what I had in mind.....
Untitled-1 copy.jpg Mine changes the direction downward or maybe I misunderstood what you meant.

This post shoulda been titled "my tree is dying" or "why did they market this tree"?

Could be but also could be the way you handled it at purchase... Is it a recent purchase? What has been done since?

As recent as 7 weeks ago.Nothing needs to be done to it. It's just a conversation piece for intents and purposes. I think they should have 2 of them in the same pot, maybe raise the price $20 bucks so the newb bonsai artist has something to practice with.

Sorry feller....

That S juniper is yours?
The one to layer?

I haven't layered a juniper....
But they layer themselves in pots....

I would try putting a wire on it where you want to cut it, to slowly cinch it off as it grows....

And bury the length of the raft.

I would keep the box level, and tilt the rock pot to do like thisish....

You could use that wire cinch to tie it , or staple it to the box so it doesn't move.

It's gonna be hard to make it work....
Fun!

Or stake it up straighter and pop it in a bucket for 10 years.

It's impossible to hang a pot on that thing. It's more trouble than it's worth. I should just start with another Juniper. Thanks anyway man. I'm thinking, Anyone around here that wants it come and get it. If not I may just cut it and put the raft in a pot and see if it roots like that. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:( :(
