I often wonder about that. I think in some cases it is the true personality coming through, but at other times it's just that people get caught up in the fray because there are no direct/immediate consequences. Not so much that they are frightened hypocrites, but just that it is easy to write things on an anonymous keyboard. There's no risk of someone knocking their teeth out.

That said, I know someone who wound up getting harassed (stuff was sent to their employer trying to get them fired, threatening phone calls at home, etc) because of something written on a forum...that seemed innocuous at the time. But the person on the other end was a crazy. You never know what you're dealing with.

Believe it or not, those tactics were used in a previous bonsai board back in the early oughts and even more recently. It's not a new thing and it can escalate to silly and sometimes dangerous levels, driven by idiocy, pettiness and plain vindictiveness. Get caught up in online drama at your own risk, you never know who you're talking to or what they're capable of.

Oh, I absolutely believe it. The case I was referencing had nothing to do with bonsai, but it's probably more common than anyone realizes. Fortunately the police got involved and took it seriously and that put an end to it, though one is never 100% sure it won't come back.

And you have a statistical sample of how "most in the bonsai community" feel? Would you mind sharing the source of your information?

I am just tugging your chain, because I know there is no possibility of you backing up that comment. I think you meant to say "a few people I have spoken with don't like this site". And that's ok - because Internet forums are not for everyone.

Folks I'm going to close this thread because it appears to be nothing more than a continuation of an argument that started on another site. Let's try to stay positive and not seek out more negativity.
